Salvador Tolentino Juban
Salvador Tolentino Juban (Born: 16 November 1941) is a painter and was known as an assistant to Carlos "Botong" Francisco thus he paints the same subjects as "Botong." Compared to the maestro, he makes use of bolder lines and a more spontaneous approach. He also assisted Vicente Manansala in his murals for the Philippine Heart Center for Asia and the United Coconut Planters Bank. He has done murals for the different private and public institutions.
Life
Juban was the son of Simplicio Juban and Maxima Tolentino and was married to Celestina Reyes with whom he has four children. An inborn artist, he got his early training in sketching by tracing Komiks characters. he got his first lesson in art under National Artist Carlos "Botong" Francisco. It is during his school days that he frequented Botong's residence to see the master at work and eventually became Botong's assistant on his projects. He assisted Botong's with his piece Bulwagang Maharnilad (8 ft x 200 ft). He also continued and finished his master's 18 ft x 25 ft mural for former first lady Imelda Marcos
Education
Juban was an art scholar at the University of Santo Tomas from 1969 to 1973. He took up B.S. Fine Arts Major in Painting and was unluckily did not finished his fourth year due to the demand of his commissioned painting job. He finished his elementary and secondary school at Angono Elementary School.
Career
He also worked with National Artist Vicente Manansala for the murals for the Philippine Heart Center for Asia and the United Coconut Planters Bank. He traveled around Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, China and Hongkong) in order to learn the art of his Asian counterparts.
Juban also paints the same subjects as Botong, such as fiestas featuring the Virgin and other folk genre concentrating on fishing subjects of his home town of Angono. He joined several group exhibits since 1973 and had one-person shows in the different art galleries here and abroad. He has done several murals for the different private and public institutions such us (Pag-Asa) for National Orthopedic Hospital, (Anazibu and Batangan) for Batulao's Clubhouse in Nasugbu, Batangas, (History of Meralco) for Lopez Family and (Nymphs) being displayed at Colonnade Building lobby in Makati.
